Overview

Leave the beach crowds behind for a full-day tour to the south coast of Jamaica, where you'll visit the Appleton Estate's rum distillery, and take a cool dip in the clear waters of YS Falls. YS Falls is one of the most natural and beautiful spots you will find in Jamaica. A spectacle, boasting a magnificent seven-tiered cascading waterfall and an expansive wading pool fed by underground springs. A recent addition to YS Falls is a canopy zipline tour which lets you "fly" up to 40 feet above the waterfalls. Our next stop is Appleton Estate, the oldest sugar estate and distillery in Jamaica. This tour provides you with an inside look at the process of making rum, one of Jamaica’s most famous export. At the end of the tour you are given the chance to sample the various liqueur that are produced at the distillery. The ride up to the Estate is just as awesome. We take you through the rural towns of southside Jamaica, the naturally preserved side of the island.

We absolutely loved our tour of YS Falls and Appleton Estate Distillery. Das drove us from Montego Bay to both locations, and provided us with a lot of stories and information about Jamaican history and culture along the way. I would recommend this tour to anyone, you'll have an excellent day.

Amazing time! Our driver Das was awesome, would highly recommend this experience. We had a ton of fun at both locations and felt there was plenty of time at each.

A fantastic day out

Driven by Das! Similar to the other reviews, extremely knowledgeable and talkative. Always had something valuable and interesting to discuss based on the local culture, surrounding area and even the history and politics of Jamaica and it's place in the Caribbean.

The drive was relatively sketchy at times (not because of das!) just because of road quality and size. With that being said, das was always a courteous and safe driver, we didn't once actually feel concerned, something we were very surprised at given similar trips we had taken on similar roads! The views to Appleton and YS can be absolutely stunning also so make sure you're paying attention!

As for the attractions, YS is lovely and relaxing. A smaller and more intimate set of waterfalls and fresh water natural pools. The ambience and vibe is very relaxed, natural and traditional. Great jerk chicken also which is wonderful.

The Appleton estate is a very professional affair. Clearly focusing their energy on providing for tourism. The tour was well rehearsed and usually around 25-30 people per group, but the discussions still felt very intimate with the guides being very knowledgeable. My only wish is that they had the 21 Yr or private bin available. The tasting only includes the signature, 8 and 12 years. The shop is a good 20% cheaper than local UK prices, so great for a good stock up.

If you want to take advantage of road side jerk or plantain, make sure you book for a weekend, where road side bbqs are more prevalent, even then there was the option to stop for local fish and shrimp.

Overall we both really struggled to find any critique of the day. It is very long, leaving at 0830 we got back at 1800, not that that is a criticism of the trip, it's absolutely worth the duration and das made the long drives fly by with his commentary and discussion. We enjoyed ourselves so much we would ask for das to drive us again!
