Sanctuary with soul

What a magical place! From the moment we sat down we felt very welcome. Within minutes we had hummingbirds drinking from our hands. Marcia, our guide for the garden tour, was very knowledgeable. Tamika and Ian, and their son Ayale were so open. We felt as though we were with old friends. The whole family is extremely talented. Their sanctuary should be an ecotourism destination the way everything is in harmony and balance. In a world that is so commercial you can find soul on the hillside.

Inspiring place and story of a couple’s vision for a slice of paradise. Sitting with Ras and hearing his family story and then enjoying a guided tour of the gardens built along the cliffside was engaging and informative. The gardens are whimsical and have a vast selection of flora.
A visit to the gallery to view paintings by Ras, his wife and son was fun. You may see his work in several of the hotels in Jamaica.

Informative and displays the beauty of Jamaica.

Where do I begin??? My
Mom and I visited on her birthday mainly because she loves hummingbirds and here you can feed them by hand. I was excited to have her experience this and I was excited to see the gardens. The driveway is very steep, and we came to learn it is because of the quartz that they could not remove. We were afraid my
Mom could not make it up the hill because she has to walk with a cane. But the owners’ son came down, put my mom’s arm around him, and helped her to get to the top. As we left, he did the same thing to help her get down.

This place is heaven in earth. It is in the mountains so you get an unbelievable view, however we could not see very far because of the sand storms from Africa.

When we got there, they took us to a nice covered patio to sit and Ras told us the story of how this place came to be. He, his family, and friends developed this paradise out of a mountain full of rocks. Immediately the hummingbirds started coming so they gave my mom and feeder to
Hold and the birds came and sat on her finger to feed. She was absolutely thrilled!!!! The giggles that came out of her were so great.

One of their employees (I forgot her name) took me on a tour of the gardens and told me the names of all the plants/flowers and educated me on them. It is truly a gorgeous, serene, and unbelievable place. I could have stayed there all day.

My mom stayed back at the patio with Ras, his wife, and son and continued feeding the birds while they took pictures and videos for me. Eventually, my mom couldn’t contain her excitement anymore and started shouting for me to come back to see all the birds coming to her. I then went to look at their gallery of paintings made by Ras- and some by his wife and son, also.

We were made to feel like visiting friends, not just guests. They gave us juice from one of their country’s fruits and sat and chatted with us. It was a wonderful time and I know this is something my mom will never forget.

Please do not pass up coming to this hidden gem. The beauty of their gardens and the welcome that they give you will always remain in your memories.

We hadn’t planned on leaving our hotel property but the reviews on Trip Advisor compelled us to travel to Ras Nantango for a visit. The taxi ride was an adventure onto itself traveling through local neighborhoods up steep terrain. leave the heels at home Ladies as you’ll need to climb up a very steep driveway to enter the property. Ras and his wife Tamika were gracious and humble hosts. The hummingbirds were a highlight as they flitted about us while we chatted and even alit on our fingers to drink from the feeder. Highly recommend!
